Remember the craze of putting bacon in anything and everything?
In some instances, its saltiness and fattiness combined beautifully with other ingredients.
In other dishes, the food was certainly edible, but not enhanced by the mixing of flavors.
These two scenarios are exactly what could happen with a dual-narrative novel.
Author E. J. Wenstrom has taken her own advice and read several such novels, since it’s a technique she’s made use of, and has seen the structure work … and fail.
From those stellar examples, however, she’s gleaned useful strategies for writing a dual-narrative novel in which the multiple voices enhance, rather than bog down, the story and shared those on Jane Friedman’s blog.
