For some people, the best advice they’ve received in a certain arena may be laser-focused and incredibly specific.

We’ll admit to being fond, though, of advice that can be applied broadly, like what Writer Unboxed contributor Matthew Norman says was the best writing advice he’s ever received.

For him, a writing instructor’s admonition of “It’s your job to make readers get it” has resonated for years after she uttered it.

Norman has understood this advice to apply to several different scenarios, from how the author receives criticism to what they should do differently in their craft.
