Last Tuesday served up a smorgasbord of new and highly anticipated book releases.

We have excerpts of two of those to share with you, if you haven’t already gotten your hands on the works.

For nonfiction, we have Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law, by Mary Roach.

As the subtitle indicates, the book features animals whose entrance into human territory becomes disruptive, albeit understandable — given that the wildlife was often there first.

You can read an excerpt of Fuzz in the New York Times.

For fiction, we have Palmares, by Gayl Jones.

The novel — Jones’s first in over twenty years, and also the first of several more to come — follows an enslaved woman who breaks free of Portuguese plantations and, upon her sanctuary’s destruction, plunges back into colonial Brazil to seek her long-lost husband.

You can read an excerpt of Palmares in Literary Hub.
