A former MasterChef contestant who earned a Michelin star at one restaurant and launched an acclaimed one of her own is now in hot water over plagiarism allegations.
Elizabeth Haigh’s debut cookbook, Makan, has been withdrawn from publication, reports Eater London, after Sharon Wee pointed out that passages in it were either paraphrased or copied from her own 2012 cookbook, Growing Up in a Nonya Kitchen.
After Wee went public, others reported seeing material from blogs and cookbooks in Makan as well.
Wee told Eater London that she can’t comment beyond her original statement; a spokesperson for Haigh said the chef/author was unable to answer questions for legal reasons; and Haigh’s publisher said in a statement that “This title has been withdrawn due to rights issues.”
