US rights to Nobel winner Abdulrazak Gurnah's books are finally selling

Winning a well-known literary prize usually results in greater book sales for an author.

At least, it should — but in the case of Nobel Prize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, increased US interest couldn’t fully pay off immediately.

That’s because while he writes in English, the US rights for some of his books were still up for grabs.

Three of them were just recently sold, though, reports Literary Hub, citing the New York Times: his newest novel, Afterlives, and two from the backlist, By the Sea and Desertion.

Americans still have a wait ahead of them, however; Afterlives won’t be out in the US until August 2022.
