Why and when to take a step back from deep point-of-view

For a while, you couldn’t read a writing blog without tripping over a piece on deep point-of-view.

But you know what’s also valuable to and powerful for your fiction?

The opposite.

C.S. Lakin again uses a film analogy and describes a distanced point-of-view as being another lens in a writer’s toolbox.

Odds are that they won’t write an entire novel at arm’s length, just as a cinematographer won’t film the entire movie from a bird’s eye view.

Those faraway moments, though, can help set the scene and nudge readers to make guesses of their own.
