The ebook licensing battle between traditional publishers and libraries seems to currently be favoring the former.
The Bookseller reports that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul wrapped up 2021 by vetoing a bill that would’ve required publishers and authors to issue ebook licenses to libraries under terms set by the state.
The Association of American Publishers had opposed the New York bill and also filed a suit to block a similar law from taking effect in Maryland.
A court hearing in that case is set for February 7, says The Bookseller.
