A federal judge recently awarded $7.8 million in damages to several publishers and authors who sued an ebook piracy website.

But Dan Holloway, of the Alliance of Independent Authors, can’t help but see it as an empty victory.

The operators of KISS Library are unlikely to hand over the money to the defendants — including the Authors Guild, Amazon Publishing, Penguin Random House, and a number of authors — he says.

Nor will it put an end to all piracy.

But what troubles Holloway a bit more, though, is his suspicion that the fight against online piracy sites like KISS is indirectly causing Amazon to suspend legitimate author accounts.
