We trust that many of you have been lucky enough to encounter words in other languages that don't have a succinct equivalent in English.

For example: schadenfreude (German for the pleasure at others' misfortunate) and tsundoku (Japanese for the art of collecting books that don't end up being read).

But don't take that to mean English is lacking in interesting words.

It's more that we have, unfortunately, let some incredibly amusing ones drop out of everyday conversation.

Literary Hub's Jonny Diamond shares a list of clever but obscure words that deserve to return to everyday language.
