Ian McEwan’s next book, to be released in September, will be his “most epic book to date.”

That’s how the publishing director who acquired the book described it to the Guardian

Lessons begins at the end of World War II and follows its protagonist — then eleven years old — through adulthood and the disappearance of his wife.

It explores how childhood trauma colors the rest of one's life, along with the other traumas and major events that occur.

McEwan is a previous Booker Prize winner whose other works include Atonement, Machines Like Me, and, most recently, The Cockroach.
