The Dutch publisher of a book purporting to identify Anne Frank's betrayer has privately apologized to its other authors over the controversy surrounding the book.

The New York Times reports that Ambo Anthos Publishers emailed its authors to acknowledge that a "more critical stance could have been taken" on The Betrayal of Anne Frank.

The email also said it would delay printing more copies until further notice.

US publisher HarperCollins declined to comment to the NY Times; Rosemary Sullivan, who wrote the account of an investigative team's attempt to solve a decades-only mystery, didn't respond to requests for comment.

The Betrayal of Anne Frank was released to much fanfare January 17, but quickly faced criticism over the evidence it cited for its conclusion that a fellow Jew revealed the Franks' hiding place to Nazis.
