A federal judge has blocked Maryland's new library ebook law.
Publishers Weekly reports that Judge Deborah L. Boardman found in favor of the Association of American Publishers, which sought an injunction against the law that took effect January 1.
It's the second setback this year for those seeking more favorable ebook licensing deals for libraries; New York's governor vetoed a similar bill in January.
Five other states are considering similar legislation right now.
Previously, PW reported that Big Five publisher Penguin Random House will extend its temporary library terms of sale for digital content.
The program began early in the COVID-19 pandemic and provided significant discount on ebook and audio licenses.
PRH will extend these discounts through June 30, according to PW.
