A week from today, the TV show based on Min Jin Lee's bestselling novel Pachinko will premiere on Apple TV.

The novel follows four generations of a Korean family, beginning with an impoverished couple that immigrates to Japan.

Given its critical and popular success, the stakes (and rights price) were high for the limited-series adaptation. 

But author Juhea Kim says that despite a few missteps, the show is "undeniably a must-watch."
