A Rhode Island Senate committee has approved the state's library ebook bill, sending it to the full state Senate.

Publishers Weekly reported last week that the education committee unanimously approved the bill that would require publishers to offer "reasonable terms" for lending licenses.

PW noted that it specifically adds a clause that mandates that any license limiting "the rights of a library or school under the U.S. Copyright Act shall not be enforceable" in Rhode Island.

The Copyright Act is what a federal judge in Maryland cited when issuing a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of that state's e-lending law.
