A pandemic-lockdown project has debuted at number two on the New York Times's paperback nonfiction bestseller list.
The title character of Lily's Promise is teenager Dov Forman's great-grandmother, who survived the Holocaust with two of her sisters but lost the rest of her family.
Forman interviewed Lily Ebert for several hours a day, according to the New York Times, and fact-checked the details she provided in order to create the Holocaust memoir.
Like many Holocaust survivors, Ebert never spoke about her experiences with her children, but with each generation — and the passage of years — she gradually became ready to make her memories into something history could preserve.
Read more about Forman and Ebert's hard work in the NY Times.
