When tragedies such as the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, occur, it's natural for us to look to experts and demand answers as to how they happened.
One such person consulted by NPR: Mark Follman, author of the book Trigger Points: Inside The Mission To Stop Mass Shootings In America and national affairs editor for Mother Jones.
Follman's book came out less than two months ago and is currently number one in Amazon's mass murder category.
He shared some insights with Morning Edition's Rachel Martin about the role of mental health in such shootings, what signs we can watch for, and what interventions can be done.
