If you want to really tick off TV writer and novelist Joshua Senter, tell him that a character would never do (insert action).

His response? If you write a character properly, your audience — whether a reader or a viewer — will absolutely accept that action as consistent with the character's personality.

The key, of course, is for you as the writer to fully understand what's going on in your character's head so that you can keep setting the stage for whatever dramatic action will be taken.

Senter walks you through giving a character a psych evaluation in a post for Writer's Digest.
