States are increasingly changing rules governing public libraries

Book bans are increasingly reaching higher and higher levels of government.

NPR provided an update on the status of bans and challenges in the United States — this time, with a focus on state legislatures empowering lower-level officials to restrict materials in public libraries.

Some bills, like one in Kentucky, change how library leaders are chosen.

But others, like in Oklahoma, give the right to sue any person (including a librarian) who flouts a law that requires filters on "obscene material" to be installed on digital databases.
