Plenty of readers find it easy to plow right through a novel.

But for others, that's not as natural, particularly if they're tackling an older novel.

Enter the Serial Reader app, which breaks down more than 800 free books into what Mental Floss describes as "bite-sized 'issues'" that can be read in about twenty minutes.

The app's creator believes it can appeal to — and be useful for — speed-readers as well.

Michael Schmitt says on the app's website that he built Serial Reader to force himself to slow down and "think more critically about the work and retain more of the story."

Serial Reader is available for iPhone and Android.
