If a belief serves you, then we won't discourage you from holding it.

For example, a few commenters on Joni B. Cole's list of writing myths that hold writers back told her that they did, in fact, have muses who helped them write.

And Cole's response? That's great! Carry on as is.

However, that belief can be unhelpful if it leads you to lie around and passively wait for inspiration to strike.

Similarly, in "roving grammarian" Ellen Jovin's experience, three fake grammar rules are far more likely to harm a writer's language than they are to improve it.
