Happy belated seventy-fifth birthday to the classic storybook Goodnight Moon!

The collaboration between writer Margaret Wise Brown and illustrator Clement Hurd came out September 3, 1947, and has sold more than 40 million copies since then.

NPR spoke with Hurd's son Thacher about the work's legacy and discusses its initial reception — famously warm from everyone but the New York Public Library's Anne Carroll Moore — as well as Brown's multifaceted personality.
