Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front has been adapted into a film for the third time.

The latest iteration — but the first one realized by a German filmmaker — has been out on Netflix for a few weeks now.

Slate's Fred Kaplan breaks down how this version differs from the novel it's based on, as well as World War I history, in a sort-of review of the movie that definitely contains plot spoilers.
