In many parts of the world, this is a drab, dull time of year, visually speaking.

So we're here to add a little color to your day.

Literary Hub previously had a passage from the spring release The World According to Color: A Cultural History by art historian James Fox.

In it, Fox focuses on one dramatic (and seasonal, if you live in a place that embraces Santa Claus) color: red.

Head to Lit Hub to read the reflections on red's prevalence in film and literature from The World According to Color.

If you'd prefer to look at pictures versus text instead (we're not judging), Open Culture has you covered.

The website explored a 900-page guide to color from 1692 — of which a complete digital scan is available.
