Perhaps there are some readers who are pleased with a British publisher’s changes to Roald Dahl’s books.
But those aren’t the ones speaking up.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph first reported that Puffin Books had edited passages that referenced weight, mental health, gender, and race.
The Associated Press followed up on the news — and the criticisms of such changes from author Salman Rushdie and the freedom-of-expression group PEN America.
While Puffin hasn't responded to requests for comment, the Roald Dahl Story Company, which controls the rights to the books, did issue a statement.
In part, the statement explained that the "small and carefully considered" revisions came under discussion back in 2020.
