Author J.K. Rowling rarely (and understandably) gives interviews.

Recently, though, she appeared on the podcast The Witch Trials of JK Rowling and continued to address the topic that has caused such controversy.

Rowling told host Megan Phelps-Roper that she knew it would be easier not to weigh in on transgender issues — but ultimately, she decided she had to speak up against what she saw as "something dangerous" about the movement.

Her comments have drawn much ire from the transgender community and its allies, but Rowling told Phelps-Roper that many fans have contacted her and expressed their support for her views.

Additionally, she said, she is "absolutely upholding the positions" she expressed in her Harry Potter series.

You can read more from the interview in the Guardian and the BBC — or, of course, listen to the podcast.
