Author Mary Gaitskill has returned to the universe of one of her best-known short stories, "Secretary."

That tale, originally published in 1988 and loosely adapted into a movie in 2002, features a seventeen-year-old secretary whose employer punishes her for work errors through sexual degradation.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the new story, "Minority Report," has that protagonist as a much-older woman thinking back on the situation and how it affected her.

You can read "Minority Report" and an accompanying interview with Gaitskill in The New Yorker.
