Filippo Bernardini, the Simon & Schuster employee who fraudulently obtained over a thousand unpublished book manuscripts, has been sentenced.
The Guardian reports that the judge sentenced him to time served (instead of prison time), three years of supervised release, and deportation to either the UK or Italy.
Bernardini agreed to pay $88,000 to Penguin Random House, to cover legal and expert fees that PRH incurred.
He has explained in court papers that he envied colleagues who had rightful access to unpublished books and set up his spoof email accounts so that he could be among the first people to enjoy the manuscripts.
Simon & Schuster has not been implicated in any of his actions.
