The Harry Potter books are becoming a TV series.

The Hollywood Reporter, among other media sources, says that the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max (now dubbed simply Max after its announced integration with Discovery+) will air the show.

The live-action series will have a budget similar to what Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon had, and author J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the show.

And speaking of Rowling ... an HBO executive declined to comment on her controversial remarks on transgender individuals but instead emphasized that the stories themselves are inclusive, with messages about love and acceptance.

If you're questioning why a successful book series that already inspired beloved movie adaptations needs to become a TV show, too, you're not alone.

Literary Hub has (tongue-in-cheek) proposed a number of other Harry Potter television projects that would be more welcome than a small-screen adaptation.
