The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft and creativity advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • How to format epilogues and prologues: Wondering whether your book needs a prologue, epilogue, or both? Dave Chesson helps you decide, along with providing guidance on formatting them (Kindlepreneur).

  • Writing novels inspired by place: Joanna Penn interviews author Tony Park, who has written a number of thrillers set in Africa; they touch on several key points and decisions in his publishing journey in addition to analyzing how important setting is to a story (The Creative Penn).

  • Writing historical romance for today's reader: Author Donna Hill initially felt old when she realized historical fiction could take place as recently as fifty years before the present — but then she realized the appeal, for both the writer and the reader, of going back just a little bit in time (Writer's Digest).

  • How to write nonfiction when you're not an "expert": Book coach and editor Liz Green provides a pep talk to those who'd like to write nonfiction — and are willing to do the work necessary — but who might not consider themselves an expert in a subject area (Jane Friedman).
