An appeals court has upheld a stay on the Texas READER Act.
That's the law that would require all book vendors in the state to rate the content of the books they sell and submit a list to a state agency that would then determine whether materials could be bought from those vendors.
Book vendors filed a lawsuit against the READER Act last summer, citing First and Fourteenth Amendment violations among other causes for concern, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals — described by Book Riot as one of the most, if not the most, conservative circuit court in the US — signaled its support for the plaintiffs' case.
