Here's a roundup of news and reflections on literary adaptations.

  • Film rights to Detransition, Baby, the bestselling novel by Torrey Peters, have been picked up; Good Girl Productions is currently seeking a director and writer for the project (Deadline).

  • Nina Dobrev, Tyler Hoechlin, and Virginia Gardner will star in the movie adaptation of Tessa Bailey’s hit novel It Happened One Summer (Deadline).

  • Richard Smith, a historian who plays official Henry David Thoreau at Walden Pond State Reservation, is retiring from duties after twenty-six years on the job (The New York Times).

  • Okay, so this isn’t really an adaptation, but it is about movies: the award-winning documentary The Librarians, which shares the real-life stories of librarians who are being attacked for their efforts to counter book bans, will hit movie theaters across the world this fall (Book Riot).
