The publishing experts we follow have plenty of business and marketing advice and news to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Time to play Spot The Bot: The effusively flattering emails that David Corbett recently received were in fact too good to be true, but they did a much better job of passing as human, prompting him to reflect (and share others' reflections) on what we should be watching for as AI grows more sophisticated (Writer Unboxed).

  • What writers need to know about copyright: Inspired by an author who would've been covered in the piracy case against AI company Anthropic, Victoria Strauss gives a primer on what writers should know about protecting their intellectual property (Writer Beware).

  • Three publicity mistakes debut authors make: Shanetta McDonald has found that most novice writers know they need publicity but aren't sure how to obtain it, so she provides her insight to help set them up for success (Jane Friedman).

  • Amazon metadata is the hidden risk authors can't ignore: Penny Sansevieri and Amy Cornell unpack the nightmare scenario that a nonfiction author found themself in — an Amazon ban — and how other authors can try to protect themselves ... and fight back (Author Marketing Experts).

  • Lessons from my publisher going out of business: When Cindy Fazzi's publisher closed up shop between her debut and second novels, she picked up some hard-earned lessons that apply to both indie and traditionally published authors (Writer's Digest).
