Today's news of literary awards and honors is a mix of the formal and informal.

  • Barnes & Noble has chosen Mona's Eyes, written by Thomas Schlesser and translated by Hildegarde Serle, as its book of the year (B&N).

  • TIME magazine has just posted its 100 Must-Read Books of 2025.

  • The winners of the 2025 Ignyte Awards, which celebrate the "vibrancy and diversity" in science fiction, fantasy, and horror, have been announced (Reactor).

  • The American Book Awards were also announced a few months ago; there are no categories, nominees, or overseeing organization for this prize (Before Columbus Foundation).

  • Check out the longlist for the 2026 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in fiction and nonfiction; the shortlist comes out November 18 and the winners will be revealed January 27 (American Library Association).
