Take a look back at 2025 in literature with these year-end roundups.

  • Emily Temple has crunched the numbers (er, the various best-of lists) once again to build a best-books-of-2025 list to rule them all (Literary Hub).

  • Book sales in 2025 seemed to have moved away from nonfiction and YA, but toward genre fiction and religion — or, as the headline put it, "dragons, sex, and the Bible" (The New York Times).

  • The top ten backlist fiction titles of 2025, according to Bookscan, include some unsurprising guesses along with some less familiar choices (X).

  • It’s the time of year where readers often post their total number of books read in the past year .. and thus also the time where online commenters call the numbers inaccurate or criticize how the readers achieved them, so Danika Ellis is here to take on the haters (Book Riot).

  • And in case you missed it due to the holidays, our most recent weekend reads roundup included several posts on reading and literary trends in 2025 (The Fussy Librarian).
