Most free-ebook promotions are judged by what happens on the guaranteed promotion date.
But what happens when a book continues reaching readers long after that first appearance?
The following promotion for a fantasy book remained free for 30 days and was eligible for additional appearances throughout the month.
Promotion Summary
-
Total appearances: 30
-
Total clicks: 2,995
-
Additional clicks after initial promotion date: 1,993

Nearly two-thirds of all clicks occurred after the guaranteed promotion date.
In other words, the majority of reader engagement happened after the day most authors would traditionally consider the promotion "finished."
This doesn't mean every permafree title will perform identically. Results vary by genre, cover, blurb, retailer availability, and reader demand.
What this example demonstrates is the value of continued reader discovery.
New subscribers join every day. Some readers only open newsletters occasionally. Others may simply miss a particular email. By remaining available throughout the month, this title continued finding new readers long after its initial appearance.
The book wasn't simply promoted once and forgotten. It continued reaching readers throughout the month.
What We Learned
At The Fussy Librarian, a free ebook promotion doesn't necessarily end on its guaranteed promotion date.
For authors with permafree books, reader magnets, or other long-term free offers, the cumulative effect of ongoing discovery can be substantial.
In this example, the book generated nearly 2,000 clicks after the guaranteed promotion date alone.
Why This Result Matters
Many ebook promotion services are built around a single promotional date. Once that date passes, the opportunity to reach readers largely ends.
The Fussy Librarian's newsletter system is designed differently. Because newsletters are personalized for individual readers, eligible books can continue reaching readers after the guaranteed promotion date instead of relying on a single burst of exposure.
In this example, that translated into 1,993 additional clicks after the guaranteed promotion date — nearly two-thirds of the promotion's total reader engagement.
