Author Dawn Powell was born on this day in 1896. She was a prolific writing, producing hundreds of short stories, a dozen novels and and ten plays. Powell's first commercial success is considered "A Time To Be Born," a story about a hack writer whose husband is a newspaper magnate. The novel was adapted into a musical in New York in 2006.
