Despite acclaim as one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, Gabriel García Márquez refused during his lifetime to sell the film rights to "One Hundred Years of Solitude," his most famous novel. "They would cast someone like Robert Redford and most of us do not have relatives who look like Robert Redford," Garcia Marquez famously said. Garcia Marquez passed away earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether his widow and two children will respect his wishes.

<p>It's been years since I attempted to read "100 Years" (never finished it ... don't take away my BA in English ...) but I remember it being incredibly dense and can't imagine it converting easily to a two-hour movie. </p>
