A federal judge has ruled against an author who claimed Gillian Flynn’s novel Gone Girl was based on her screenplay.

Judge John Robert Blakey issued a 33-page opinion on Monday, saying “no ordinary observer could conclude that [Out of the Blue] and Gone Girl are substantially similar.”

Author Leslie Weller had filed the lawsuit in December, saying a script consultant had shared her screenplay with Flynn.

Gone Girl was adapted into a movie in 2014, grossing $369 million at the box office.

The news was first reported by Courthouse News Service.
