Catherynne M. Valente’s novel Space Opera -- best described as "Eurovision in space" with the whimsy of Douglas Adams -- has been optioned for film by Universal Pictures and Marc Platt (Legally Blonde, La La Land).

The movie is likely a long ways off. Platt has the movie adaptation of Wicked on his plate and while that movie has a release date (December 2019), production has yet to begin and none of the cast has been announced.

The news was first reported by Deadline.
