Journalist Howard Bryant went on NPR’s Fresh Air to discuss the history of social protest among African-American athletes with host Terry Gross.

Bryant’s new book — The Heritage: Black Athletes, a Divided America, and the Politics of Patriotism — traces the tradition back to Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and others.
