We may have an answer to why the film industry is so keen to adapt books versus creating original content — book-based adaptations are more successful!

At least, that’s the case in the United Kingdom, where the Publishers Association released a report that found adaptations attract, on average:

  • 44 percent more in UK film box office revenue (and 53 percent more globally).

  • 58 percent higher viewership of "high-end" TV productions.

  • Nearly three times more ticket sales for theater productions.

A complete breakdown of the survey, produced by Frontier Economics for the Publishers Association, is available here.
