The widening gap between moderate-income people and the super-rich is a hot issue in the United States, but we’re far from the only country to experience this phenomenon.

India is seeing its fair share of extremely wealthy residents, a trend that prompted James Crabtree to write The Billionaire Raj.

He talked with All Things Considered’s Ari Shapiro about the structures that enabled this divide, what he expects to happen next, and why western countries should care.
