We’re sad to learn, upon returning from a long weekend, that children’s literature has lost another great.

Clive King, best known for Stig of the Dump, passed away on July 10, the BBC reported last Friday. He was 94 years old.

Beyond Stig, which has been in print continuously since 1963, King wrote Hamid of Aleppo, The Twenty-Two Letters, The Town that Went South, Snakes and Snakes, and many more.

You can read a full obituary on the BBC’s website, and The Guardian has a nice piece as well.
