The original manuscript of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, along with other unpublished writing, was auctioned off Thursday.

The New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture won the items, reports The Guardian.

The center’s director said on Twitter that he was honored that the papers were “coming home to Harlem.”

The article on The Guardian details many of the changes suggested by editor Alex Haley, often softening the tone.
