As one might imagine, Thi Bui was seeking (and found) healing in writing a memoir about her refugee family’s time before, during, and after the Vietnam War.

One might not have expected, however, that memoir to be a graphic novel.

Bui went on All Things Considered recently to discuss The Best We Could Do, which is nominated for an Eisner Award — mainstream comics’ top honor.
