Bel Canto has already been on stage (as an opera), and now it’s almost ready to be on screen.

The trailer for the adaptation of Ann Patchett’s award-winning, bestselling novel about the hijacking of a birthday party in South America was released yesterday.

Julianne Moore stars as the soprano Roxane Cross, who is performing at the party, and Ken Watanbe plays the guest of honor, Japanese businessman Katsumi Hosokawa.

Bel Canto arrives in select theaters September 14, with a wider release to follow on September 21.
