Fussy is based in Des Moines now, but neither staffers are from Iowa originally.

One of the many facts we’ve learned during our years here is that there’s always an Iowa connection, if not a Des Moines connection.

(Not saying that Iowa is special ... just saying that everyone seems eager to relate to your Iowa-ness.)

At any rate, here’s a literary feel-good tale from The Des Moines Register that just reinforces this trend to us.

Iowan Tammy Deal was at an author event and asked the star of the show, J. Courtney Sullivan, to sign her book to the Linden (Iowa) Public Library.

That spawned a conversation about Sullivan’s Iowa connection — her husband is originally from Des Moines — and why Deal was grabbing a book for the library — it and the library in the next town over both operate on shoestring budgets and a passionate, charitable staff.

After the event, Sullivan worked her connections and social media clout to crowdfund books and money for the two libraries.

Check out the full article on The Des Moines Register’s website to see how Tom Arnold, Alec Baldwin, and countless other everyday people who heard Sullivan’s message pitched in.
