Anand Giridharadas has some bad news for those with faith in prominent philanthropists.

His new book, Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World, argues that they’re fighting social problems in a way that doesn’t disrupt the status quo.

In other words, they’re unwilling to risk the cushy lives they’ve built for themselves, but happy to claim glory for fixing the world’s woes.

Giridharadas explains this in further detail to Morning Edition’s Steve Inskeep.
