It’s never too late to share an inspiring tale — or to become that inspiring tale.

A few weeks ago, while reading an outdated magazine before bed, we snapped a photo of how Caitriona Lally had won a literary award.

(And then proceeded to forget to share the story with you.)

But we’re digging it back up for a few reasons.

First, since it comes with a €10,000 gift (about $12,800), the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature is no small potatoes.

Second, Lally has been working as a janitor at Trinity College to support her writing career. It’s the same college she attended, in fact.

So to say that accepting an award for her debut novel, Eggshells, on those very same grounds must have been surreal might be the understatement of the year.

Lally, of course, had more eloquent reactions to her victory, which you can read in the Irish Times.
