"We always knew its day would come."

These fateful words were tweeted by England's Broadhursts Bookshop, upon the sale of an item it had had in stock for nearly three decades.

And in response to the news that the children’s biography of William the Conqueror had found its forever home, Twitter users shared the happy endings of other neglected books they’ve known.

They also posted wise questions, such as what title would replace this longtime bridesmaid of a book, and issued challenges to bookworms worldwide to “liberate” the dustiest tomes of bookstores.
